Social Housing

There are organisations and charities that can help you with finding accommodation, support with rent and mortgages, and for assisting a rough sleeper.

Not eligible due to immigration status

Council housing is a public resource and to be eligible for an allocation of social housing you must qualify for public funds. If you are not eligible to access public resources due to your immigration status, you will not qualify to join the housing register.

Urgent need for housing

If you have an urgent housing need but your circumstances mean you do not qualify for assistance from Hillingdon, you may qualify for support from other organisations.

For advice and assistance on accessing accommodation please visit our housing advice web service. If you need urgent assistance or you believe you are threatened with homelessness, please contact our Housing Needs on 01895 556666.

Help with rent deposits

If you are single, eligible, and homeless, you may be able to access one of the below schemes for assistance securing private rented sector accommodation.

Rent Deposit Guarantee Scheme

Hillingdon Rent Deposit Guarantee Scheme has been set up to help single people and couples who do not have dependent children need find accommodation in the private rented sector. As most landlords want a deposit and month's rent in advance, this scheme encourages landlords to make accommodation available to tenants where they otherwise might not have been able to access it.

You will be expected to enter into a contract with your landlord and Hillingdon which will cover the terms of the deposit guarantee. The council will pay four weeks' rent in advance and guarantee deposit, in bond form.

You must be eligible to claim Housing Benefit, have a local connection with Hillingdon, and capable of independent living with no support needs. You must be willing to look into your own future housing options.

Services for rough sleepers

Street link is a London-wide charity which supports people who are sleeping on the streets and helps them access local services.
